If you think that the only way to learn a foreign language is by sitting in front of a computer screen or repeating after an audio recording than I’d like to offer you a new experience.

The biggest problem with learning languages when you don’t live in the country is the lack of exposure to natural context and conversations. If you live in Spain and you need to get a haircut, you will need to learn how to ask to trim the ends in Spanish. When you live in Russia and take the metro home, you cannot help but hear the language around you. But what happens when you are just sitting at home where you hear only English but really want to learn a new language?

You need to create an authentic language experience around you. This is how I got the idea of yoga in Russian.

Let’s compare. Sitting in front of a computer and drilling body parts vs. doing stretches with your group and instructor live and hearing the authentic language being used. I promise you the second one is not only better for your health but also for your mind and body.

That’s not all… I also created a course that will help you to practice some of the phrases before each yoga session, so you can truly have a transforming experience.

  1. This is a unique opportunity to work with a Great Yoga Instructor and learn Russian at the same time

    5

    This class is amazing! Why?
    1. Надежда is an excellent yoga instructor! After every one of her classes, I feel invigorated, and I feel like I have really stretched different muscle groups than I usually do in other yoga classes. And I’ve worked with many other yoga instructors.

    2. The course gives instructions prior to the lessons to help learn the poses and body parts to focus on in both English and Russian, and Надежда also speaks English, so for anything that is difficult to explain for a beginner, she is able to explain so that the students aren’t just doing something wrong. This way we aren’t just watching a yoga instructor passively – we actually listen to what she is saying in Russian to follow the cues.

    3. How is this different from just learning the poses and watching YouTube videos of Yoga in Russian?
Great question. Since most of the Asanas in yoga are transliterated from Sanskrit, it doesn’t matter if you’re watching in English or Russian – Uttenasana, Shavasana, etc. are all going to sound the same. If you’ve never been to a Yoga Studio before, the things you usually miss out on from the YouTube classes are things like – ‘in this pose, make sure your back is straight, shoulders are over elbows, turn elbows toward the front of your mat…’. And in English, I can say the exact same thing like ‘while doing this pose, straighten your back. Make sure your shoulders are stacked over your elbows while facing your elbows forward.’ As a native English speaker, this is easy to follow. As a Russian learner… the differences in the two wordings are the difference between me listening to the instructor and me just watching the screen with a stupid look on my face.
In these classes, the instructor knows generally what the speaking level of the group of students is, and she can offer clarification since it is a live class.

    4. In terms of learning – there is no better way to learn words and speaking patterns than to pair them with physical activity. This is a concept that has been practiced for millennia, and this is a great way to break down barriers in speaking (before/after class for a few minutes) and listening, learning through repetition through the similarly millennia-old physically and mentally stimulating practice of yoga.
